Why Do Some Creams Stay Fresh for 3 Years – and What Does That Mean for Your Skin?

When you pick up a cream that promises to stay fresh for two or even three years – even after opening – it might seem reassuring.
But what exactly makes a cream last that long? And what does that mean for your skin?
Shelf Life vs. Skin Health
Many conventional creams on the market have a shelf life of up to 36 months.
That’s usually thanks to synthetic preservatives, stabilizers, and other chemicals designed to prevent bacteria growth, mold, and rancidity.
From a manufacturing perspective, it makes sense: long-lasting products reduce waste and make storage and distribution easier.
But this long shelf life comes at a cost – and not just an environmental one.
What’s Hiding in Long-Life Creams?
To ensure a product can survive for years, manufacturers often add ingredients like:
Synthetic preservatives such as phenoxyethanol, parabens, and benzoates
Antioxidants like BHT and BHA to keep oils from going rancid
Emulsifiers and stabilizers to stop ingredients from separating
Artificial fragrances and colorants, often used to mask the chemical smell of preservatives
While these ingredients are legal and commonly used, they’re not always kind to your skin. And they rarely offer any true nourishment.
Over time, repeated use of products with synthetic additives can lead to irritation, dryness, and sensitivity – especially if your skin is already delicate or reactive.
Some preservatives, like parabens, have been linked to hormone disruption. Fragrances are a leading cause of allergic reactions and eczema flare-ups.
These substances are designed to preserve – not to nourish. And in doing so, they can disrupt your skin’s natural balance and barrier, leaving it more vulnerable to inflammation and long-term imbalance.
We Choose a Different Path
In our 100% natural creams, we skip synthetic preservatives altogether.
Instead, we use raw ingredients that are naturally stable and deeply nourishing:
Tallow and shea butter, which have long shelf lives without additives
Natural antioxidants like vitamin E and rosemary extract
Essential oils with natural antibacterial properties
Water-free formulations, which don’t provide a breeding ground for bacteria
This means our creams have a shorter – but honest shelf life: typically 6 to 12 months.
Fresh Over Fake Longevity
We make our creams in small batches and to order, so you receive them fresh and full of active nutrients – just as nature intended.
Choosing a natural cream with a shorter shelf life is a conscious decision.
It’s not made to survive on a store shelf for years –
it’s made to truly nourish your skin with real, living ingredients.
It might not last the longest on the shelf –
but it’s the kindest to your skin and the most respectful of nature’s pace.

Hej venner!
